From Sports Library
Michael "Mike" Anthony Harkey (born October 25, 1966 in San Diego, California), was a former starting pitcher in Major League Baseball and the current pitching coach for the Iowa Cubs. He used to play for the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies,Oakland Athletics, California Angels and the Los Angeles Dodgers. His best year was unarguably, 1990 when Mike went 12-6 with a 3.26 ERA. Harkey played from 1988, 1990 through 1995, and then 1997 before calling it quits.
Harkey was the Cubs 1988 No. 1 draft choice, and settled into the Cubs rotation in 1990, where he went 12-6 and finished fifth in rookie of the year voting. Harkey struggled with injury after that as he tore up a knee while performing a pregame cartwheel in the outfield at Wrigley Field in 1991. Harkey explained he was playing up to the Bleacher Bums who were at the park early for batting practice. After a 10-10 1993, Harkey was let go. After bouncing around with the Rockies, A's, Angels and Dodgers, he was out of baseball by 1997.
