The Chicago Hounds are a team of the United Hockey League which began play in the fall of 2006. They will play their home games at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The Hounds franchise is officially a relocation of the Richmond RiverDogs, which played in Richmond, Virginia for three seasons from 2003-2006. Their first coach is former Fort Wayne coach, Greg Puhalski, who comes in as the having the most wins as a head coach in UHL history. The Hounds got off to an inauspicious start, as their first home game was canceled due to bad ice. The game was supposed to start at 7:30pm Central time, but the decision to cancel was not announced until 9pm. Several fans were alleged to have thrown rubber pucks for the Chuck-A-Puck promotion in the direction of UHL commissioner Richard Brosal, who was the one that made the official announcement to the fans. As of February 19th, 2007, Craig Drektrah (co-owner of the Rockford IceHogs) was named owner of the Hounds. Drektrah will remain co-owner of the Hogs and owner of the Hounds for the remainder of this season. Next year, he will be owner of the Hounds only, as Rockford looks to jump to the AHL.
