2007 NFL Draft
The central issue of the offseason was the contract status of linebacker Lance Briggs. Unwilling to let Briggs change teams via free agency, the Bears applied the Franchise Tag to Briggs. This guaranteed Briggs a salary of $7.2 million for the 2007 season. Briggs, on the advice of his agent Drew Rosenhaus, attempted to force the Bears into trading him. On July 25, 2007, Briggs singed a 1 year contract for $7.2 million which included $1 million of the salary paid at signing. Briggs is expected to report to camp on time.
